New TV Apps For Samsung’s Viera

Samsung has announced new on-demand apps for television, giving Australian consumers access to a range of local and international content.

BigPond Movies, TV and Sport is an app that integrates both free-to-air and internet-exclusive content in the one place. The BigPond app is claimed to make it easy for users to access BigPond content so customers can download movies from the BigPond Movies service and also watch any of the BigPond TV internet channels including sport, music, news, V8 Supercars, horse racing, AFL channel and NRL channel.

The app integrates electronic program information allowing viewers to see upcoming programs and when connecting a compatible USB HDD, will soon have features like setting reminders, recording TV shows, and pausing and rewinding live TV. The app is available on selected Samsung products. Charges of up to $6.99 apply for select HD BigPond Movies services

Another app, Samsung’s Music Hub, is a subscription-based music service offering access to millions of tracks from four major record labels as well as thousands of music videos. The service is available across multiple compatible Samsung platforms, such as select Galaxy Smartphones, Galaxy tablets, Samsung PCs, Samsung Smart TVs and Smart Blu-ray devices. Music videos can be streamed in high quality HD (720p) with an average of 40 new videos added per week.

Then there is the Quickflix app, which will allow people to stream and download movies and TV shows from studios such as HBO, NBC Universal, Lionsgate, Sony Pictures and MGM. Consumers will be available watch on select Samsung audio visual devices and mobile devices. Streaming is available as a subscription package for $14.99 per month. Select new release movies are also available as ‘Pay Per View’ from $5.99 per title.

The Wiggles have also got in on the action with the Wiggle Time TV’s video service, and access to special promotions, discounts and presales. Wiggle Time TV will showcase hours of entertainment with programming including all of The Wiggles’ properties: The Wiggles, Dorothy The Dinosaur, Baby Antonio’s Circus and Kingdom of Paramithi plus additional content such as The Adventures of Gracie Lou and Five Minutes More. Wiggle Time TV is launching soon and has a monthly subscription cost of $4.95. It will be available on select 2011 and 2012 Samsung Smart TV devices and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Finally there is Plus7, which offers consumers with on-demand access to Channel Seven shows like My Kitchen Rules, Border Security, 30 Rock and Better Homes and Garden. The service offers video streaming of full length catch-up episodes from Seven, 7mate and other content partners.
