Garmin has announced the latest version of Navigon for iPhone 2.2 including an update that adds Urban Guidance and Apple Maps integration, as well as support for the new four-inch screen of the iPhone 5.

Navigon for iPhone users can select any address or point of interest in Apple Maps and they will be offered the option to navigate to the selected destination. Using Navigon for iPhone means there is the added advantage of onboard maps, so the route can be calculated even in areas without mobile reception. The app also offers additional features, including comprehensive lane guidance, speed limit and safety camera warnings, parking info, a trip planner and multi-route display, among many other functions.

Navigon for iPhone has been optimised for the 4-inch display of the iPhone 5, claiming it is easier to see details on the map, including speed limits or points of interest. This comes in handy when depicting, for example, the map view, lane guidance and speed limits at the same time.

With Urban Guidance, users are able to integrate public transport into their route, complete with detailed itineraries of transit stops. The new feature considers trains, trams, buses and water taxis when calculating pedestrian routes. The app will guide you to your nearest transport stop by foot, and lets you look up detailed information about which route or line to take and where to get off. Navigon ‘s Last Mile feature automatically saves the location of your car when continuing by foot, making it easy to find it on the way back.

Navigon for iPhone 2.2 can be purchased and downloaded from the iTunes store for $54.99 until October 14. The in-app purchase Urban Guidance is currently 40 percent off at $2.99 until October 14.
