Your dreams of flying from Sydney to Los Angeles in only a couple of hours are that much closer with rocket engineering company Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne successfully testing a new hypersonic cruiser.

The DARPA-financed aircraft, the Falcon HTV-3X, was developed to achieve Mach 6 and beyond but function at both subsonic and supersonic speeds. What this means is that you might see jets in the not too distant future capable of travelling 10,000 miles in less than two hours.

While still a long way off and obviously not made for public consumption, it does give a sign of what’s to come.
