NBN to begin work on connecting 7.5 million premises in next three years

NBN Co today unveiled its proposed three-year build plan, detailing suburbs where National Broadband Network construction is scheduled to commence before the end of September 2018.

The new plan covers properties due to be connected via Fibre to the Node, Fibre to the Premise, Hybrid Fibre Coaxial cable, and fixed wireless technologies, and estimates that work will have begun on connecting almost 7.5 million premises in the next three years.

Approximately 2.2 million of these premises will be located in New South Wales, 2.15 million in Victoria, 1.5 million in Queensland, 600,000 in South Australia, 800,000 in Western Australia, 100,000 in Tasmania, 11,000 in the Northern Territory, and 80,000 in the Australian Capital Territory.

Based on the schedule, NBN Co says it is "well positioned" to achieve its goal of having eight million premises connected to the National Broadband Network by 2020.

The three-year plan is viewable here. It provides an anticipated technology and estimated construction commencement time for each suburb where construction is scheduled to commence before the end of September 2018.
