A report released by Cisco has revealed that almost 90% of email received is Spam accounting for close to 200 billion emails a day.
According to the report, the United States is the biggest source or spam accounting for 17 per cent of the messages that land in people’s inbox.
Turkey and Russia are the ranked next in the spamming stakes with 9.2 and 8 per cent respectively.
Cisco revealed that botnets were on the increase with a number of legitimate websites being infiltrated by malicious code in the last year.
“Using malware to infect someone’s computers is an incredibly common mechanism and harnessing them all together is a way they do their click fraud, spam emails, and data stealing,” said the report.
