More Optus woes

Optus’ 3G network in Brisbane was once again crippled yesterday with subscribers suffering lack of data and voice services since 6am.

The disruption to services in Brisbane were thought to be caused by the same bug that brought the network down in NSW Victoria and the ACT last week. Optus believes that the disruption has been caused by a Nokia Siemens software patch which was applies to all Optus 3G switches around teh country ans was meant to increase data speed and capacity.

A new patch was uploaded to fix the issue – however the problem now seems to have re-occurred in Brisbane.

Optus spokesperson Maha Krishnapillai said: “We’re not sure how long it will take to fix this problem again but we hope soon,” Mr Krishnapillai said.

“Nokia’s latest version of the software was in effect ‘contaminated’. We had a bug in the software so we have had to roll it back.

“The issue for us is that we have put the upgrade in other areas and have had no problems whatsoever – so it’s a bit of a lottery.”
