It’s another manic Monday, and what a wonderful way to start the week with some updates on the world of mobile and smart devices. This week we’ll be talking about a new version of Apple’s upcoming device, a brand new entry-level smartphone from LG and a quick peek at what Asus has planned for us, consumers in the future.

First on the list are rumours about the new Nexus 5. A few weeks ago, we’ve heard speculations that the next Nexus smartphone will still be made by LG. But now, it seems that Google is looking at another company to make its flagship smartphone after all. And by the looks of it, the search giant is looking at a company close to its home.

According to reports, Motorola will manufacture the next Nexus smartphone AKA the Nexus 5, which will be unveiled in Q4 of 2013. He didn’t elaborate on the specs of the device, but if the reports are true, an official announcement from Google and Motorola is bound to come out soon.

Meanwhile, in South Korea, LG has just released a new entry-level smartphone for its more budget-conscious consumers. The LG Optimus L1 II features a 3-inch display with a resolution of 320×240 pixels. It also features a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip with a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM.

There’s also a 2MP rear-facing camera, Bluetooth v3.0, GPS support and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n. The smartphone will run on Android v4.1.2 with a few of LG’s software add-ons including the QuickMEmo app and Cheese cutter, both are available on other LG smartphones. The LG Optimus L1 II will be priced at $95 and will be available in either Black or White initially in Vietnam, Russia and UK with other markets to follow soon.

Lastly, in Taiwan, a leaked slide deck from Asus revealed the company’s roadmap, which provides hint at what the company will be working on in the near future. The slides mention the PadFone Mini, MeMO Pad HD 8 and the MeMOFone HD5.

The slides provide names of the device but no information on their release dates, specs or prices. But based on the names, we have a good idea of what these devices might be. For starters, the PadFone Mini might be a competitor to the Galaxy S4 Mini and the HTC One Mini. The MeMO Pad HD 8 will probably be an 8-inch tablet with an HD resolution screen. The MeMOFone HD5 on the other hand is probably a 5-inch phablet with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels.
