It’s another Monday and it’s that time of the week again to get ourselves updated with the latest news and events in the mobile phone industry. This week, we’ll be talking about a new of phablet from Lenovo, an update to the HTC One and some new developments with the Nexus 5 rumours.

HTC ONE

Google has recently announced the next version of its mobile operating system and it’s now a race for manufacturers of Android devices worldwide to get at the very least the current version of Android out to their handsets.

This week, HTC has indirectly announced that Android 4.3 will be coming this month to its flagship handset – the HTC One. The announcement was made by HTC America’s President Jason Mackenzie as he responded to some questions on Twitter about the HTC One’s Android 4.3 update. According to his responses, the Android 4.3 development for the said device is right on schedule and should be available by the end of the month.

Moreover, GSMArena’s sources have posted a photo of a blue HTC One (reportedly headed to Verizon) running on Android 4.3, which allegedly was taken at IFA. The update schedule applies to HTC One devices in the US and Europe.

LENOVO VIBE X

Meanwhile, Lenovo has just announced its latest phablet last week at IFA 2013 – the Vibe X. The device is said to be one of the thinnest phablets in the market measuring 6.9mm at its side.

The device boasts a 5-inch 1080p display, protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass 3 and gets a 1.5GHz quad-core MediaTek 6589T processor coupled with 2GB of Ram and 16GB of internal storage. There’s also a 13MP camera at the back and a 5MP sub-camera at the front.

The Lenovo Vibe X will run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and is scheduled for release initially in China by October, while other markets will have to wait until December.

NEXUS 5 (LG D820)

A recent FCC filing by LG for a device called D820 suggest that the Korean manufacturer is again making the new version of Google’s Nexus handset.

Images of the back panel of the device from the FCC shows the various components and including the hole for the camera lens, which coincidentally looks similar in position and in size to the one in the Nexus device spotted during the Android KitKat statue unveiling.

The FCC filing also reveals some relevant information about the device, including the size of its screen, which is measured at around 5 inches, its firmware which was noted as M8974A-0.0.19.0.0.1, which points to a Snapdragon 800 chipset, and finally, a small bit of code that hints of its KitKat operating system.
