In this week’s edition of Mobile Mondays, let’s take a different route and talk about some news that deals with the internals of a mobile phone. So today, we’ll be talking about a SoC (System on Chip), an instant messaging platform and an update to a very popular mobile operating system.

To kick things off, Samsung recently announced an enhanced version of its Exynos 5 Octa chipset which will be officially unveiled this week. The chip is expected to make its first appearance inside the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note III. There’s no detailed information yet about the chip’s specification but we’ll update everyone once Samsung gives its official statement.

In other news, BBM’s scheduled arrival on Android may come a little later than expected as BlackBerry India’s managing director, Sunil Lalvani indirectly spilled the beans on the status of the service’s release date in an interview to a local news site.

“The service is coming to Android this summer. But summer as per North America, where it remains till September”

It’s unsure yet if this announcement applies to all regions or only to certain regions so Android users who want to get BBM on their devices would at the very least wait a bit more if we are to believe Lalvani’s announcement.

Lastly, Telstra has received information that the Samsung Galaxy Note II 4G model will be updated to version 4.3 Jelly Bean and will skip version 4.2.2. There’s no schedule yet on when the update will roll out to users but we suspect that it will go live in a few weeks as Telstra’s support page indicates that it is currently waiting for initial vendor submission.
