Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system isn’t really the hit OS that the Redmond company has wished it to be, so it’s making an effort to get people over any criticisms they might have had when they transitioned from Windows 7 to Windows 8, by releasing a new operating system as soon as possible.

Recent reports suggest that Microsoft might announce Windows 9 at the company’s BUILD developer conference this April.

The new OS codenamed Threshold is not intended to be a major system overhaul, but rather fixes a number of consumer complaints about the design of Windows 8. The new OS will reportedly welcome back the full return of the Smart menu with option to run Metro apps in desktop mode.

The new operating system is also expected to unify all of the company’s OS including Windows Phone and Xbox.
