Cortana is Microsoft’s answer to Apple’s Siri and Google’s Google Now and it took a while before Microsoft was able to come up with its own voice assistant to make Windows Phone at par with iOS and Android.

But in a surprise turn of events, it looks like the Redmond-based company is planning to bring Cortana to the company’s Rival operating systems. This is according to Windows Phone’s Group Program Manager Marcus Ash who gave the statement to GeekWire during the SMX Advance Search Marketing Expo in Seattle.

According to Ash, the idea of porting Cortana to other operating systems is an active conversation for the people at Microsoft. In fact, the company is reportedly planning to get the feature beyond phones and into desktop PCs and vehicles.

Of course there are certain challenges that Microsoft will face in bringing Cortana outside the Windows Phone environment, but given the company’s recent success in securing a spot in iOS and Android for Microsoft Office and Bing, it wouldn’t be surprising if they can pull it off.
