- October 26 Launch
- Touch Cover that doubles as a keyboard

Microsoft’s first tablet computer, the Surface, will go on sale at AUS$559 starting next Friday, October 26. While the device’s signature hardware feature, the Touch Cover that doubles as a keyboard, will cost an additional $139.99.
The Touch Cover has a working, printed keyboard on its inside surface, but the "keys" don't move when pushed. Microsoft will sell a separate Type Cover with keys that move for $149.99.
A step-up model for $789 has twice the memory, 64GB, and includes a cover. The base model has 32GB capacity.
The Surface will hit shelves alongside the launch of Windows 8, a version of the operating system that's designed to work better on touch-screen computers and tablets.
The tablet will be available for sale in stores in the US and Canada, and online in Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong and the UK.
