Fresh from its sell off of Atlas to Facebook, Microsoft just announced its acquisition of MetricsHub, a service that automates cloud performance management and helps customers manage their cloud services more efficiently.

MetricsHub participated in Microsoft’s Azure Accelerator, a competitive three-month accelerator program that provides 10 companies developing in the cloud with $20,000 of funding (in collaboration with Tech Stars), $60,000 worth of cloud computing services on Azure, technical training and support, mentorship from entrepreneurs  and an office space in Seattle.

At the end of the program, participants are given the opportunity to pitch their product to Microsoft executives, vendors and media. In MetricsHub’s case, their final prize is the chance to be acquired by Microsoft.

MetricsHub provides users with the ability to scale their service as the need arises and offers health and performance monitoring with alerts and notifications in case something goes wrong all within the comforts and convenience of the cloud.

Although the service is not as comprehensive as other tools currently available in the market, MetricsHub is now offered for free in the Windows Azure store as a pre-release version for free which make it a very viable option for businesses who want to do more but have very limited resources.

MetricsHub also added that they will be converting all existing paying customers of the service into a free account and that MetricsHub technology will continue to keep their cloud applications running.
