Marvel revealed today an experimental feature their digital team is working on called Project Gamma that aims to provide readers with a unique experience through the addition of background music.

However, unlike soundtrack from other forms of media, Project Gamma plays music to adapt to the way he reads. To be specific, Project Gamma will play a musical score while reading a comic and then enhance it by changing the music depending on the pace at which a user reads. This means that a user’s experience in reading a comic will differ from person to person.

According to Marvel’s digital media group senior vice president and general manager Peter Philips, Project Gamma is powered by a gaming engine that queues itself up to different parts of a comic that are important to the story line and activates the music when a reader reaches a particular frame in the comics.

At present, Project Gamma is still in beta but Peter Philips said that this feature might be available to consumers before the end of the year. Marvel is also keeping it quiet and not providing any other information about the project other than the basics.
