Asus has joined the ‘pad’ revolution with its version of the iPad, the 12-inch EP121, which it says has been designed for the “tech-savvy, on-the-go individual” and “acts as a supplementary Windows-based portable tablet PC that keeps the user perpetually connected to the information superhighway.”
Like its much-hyped Apple counterpart, the unit is designed for social networking sites, movies, video-conferencing and is said to be a full-featured slate computer that serves as a multimedia player, e-reader, compact PC and Internet device.
Powered by a CULV Intel Core 2 Duo processor and the Windows 7 Home Premium operating system, it handles multitasking, enabling users to check their email and calendars, have video conferences and process Microsoft Word and Excel documents simultaneously.
The Eee Pad EP121 offers two modes of character input—an embedded virtual keyboard and a special docking station/keyboard—and is claimed to delivers 10 hours of continuous computing.
There is also the 10’-inch Eee Pad EP101TC, which weighs in at 675g and runs on Windows Embedded Compact 7—a complete toolkit with the latest Windows 7-based technologies and tools that create engaging user experiences and delivers connectivity to the Windows world. It provides a familiar full-featured experience across various connected devices and cloud computing services.
Also announced at the same time were the Asus-Lamborghini VX6, Next Generation of Eee PCs and the EeeTop ET2400 series.
The Lamborghini VX6 is a co-branded effort with supercar manufacturer Automobili Lamborghini, comes with the next generation Nvidia Ion graphics platform with 512MB VRAM, as well as audio designed by Bang & Olufsen ICEpower.
Then there is the fourth generation of Eee PCs—namely the 1018, 1016 and the classic Seashell 1015. These Eee PCs’ crafted lines are paired with various innovative materials for a distinctive feel that ranges from the touches of tactile aluminum for the 1018 to the soft-to-the-touch matte surface of the 1015.
This new range offers web access on-the-go, allowing you to log onto Asus Access for multimedia content downloads and Asus WebStorage for file sharing. With Asus Super Hybrid Engine, users can expect up to 13.5 hours of battery life.
Asus is the 1st OEM worldwide to launch its own store, the Asus app store, which is powered by the Intel AppUpSM Center. This store lets end users get downloads of applications whenever they log online. This service will be preinstalled in all Asus Eee PC models with the Intel Atom processor.
The EeeTop PC ET2400 is said to be the first all-in-one PC that allows the user to enhance its performance with a touch of an icon. Asus Super Hybrid Engine boosts CPU performance by up to 15 percent, claims the manufacturer.
Asus Sonic Master technology features software that allows the ET2400 deliver clear audio and also enhances bass and produces a virtual 5.1-channel surround sound experience.
The Asus Home Server TS mini allows multiple home and remote users to view digital photos, watch videos, look at security surveillance footage, listen to streamed music or upload files.
It automatically backs up data from up to 10 home computers—with additional 500GB of capacity available online. With its 4TB capacity, it also allows multiple users to share and store on a home server—even when PCs are turned off.
For data security, the Home Server TS mini enables full-system backups while an ASWM tool informs users of operating errors via email to facilitate remote troubleshooting. In the event of a system crash, all files can be recovered.
Asus has combined the notepad and e-reader to deliver the Eee Tablet. Designed with students and mobile business professionals in mind, it features 2450 dpi touch resolution screen.
Users can choose one of the built-in notepad templates and have the option to store, sort, tag, organise and browse templates. Real time text annotations can be made on-the-fly. The Eee Tablet makes reading easy, with text file page turns taking just 0.1 seconds. It remains easy on the users’ eyes even after prolonged periods of reading.
The Eee Tablet features a built-in 2 megapixel camera that captures detailed images, letting the user grab screenshots of lecture slides and write notes on them instantly.
It syncs up with a PC or notebook via USB or Micro SD to ensure that all notes, content and calendars are constantly up-to-date.
