LG announced today that it will being accepting pre-orders for its 55-inch curved OLED TV in South Korea and will deliver them starting next month.

According to LG, over 1400 LG retail stores in South Korea will begin taking orders today from customers for the premium TV. The new EA9800 model features the industry’s first curved screen ergonomic design that provides an IMAX-like viewing experience. It also uses the company’s proprietary WRGB technology and its unique four-color pixel system.

LG has also added its own Colour refiner system that delivers greater tonal enhancement, resulting in more vibrant and natural-looking images. It also offers an infinite contrast ratio for optimal contrast levels regardless of ambient brightness or viewing angle.

This announcement makes LG the first company to commercialise both flat screen and curved OLED TVs. Timing and pricing of the curved OLED TV in markets outside Sout Korea will be announced in the months ahead. Another company that is currently working on flexible displays is Samsung but majority of the prototypes that the company has shown are applications of OLED displays on mobile devices.

But of course, Samsung is also a major manufacturer or TVs so it’s a safe bet that we’ll also see this kind of technology on Samsung products.
