It seems that every other day a new Android handset is being released by one of the major vendors, this time it’s LG with its Optimus unit.

LG says the huge range of Android apps available from Android Marketplace and the simplicity of synching Google services is one reason people should be sold on the mobile phone.

There’s nothing all that new in its claim of marrying every-day capabilities such as the ‘Social Networking’ (SN) apps, as almost all vendors are now doing this with their handsets.

With over 50,000 downloadable apps and games and access to Googles online services, LG Optimus users only need to log-in once to their Google account to access a myriad of services.

Like the recently released HTC Desire, the Optimus comes with up to seven customisable homescreens and has applications that can be streamed to homescreens via Widgets and shortcuts. The user interface can be personalised to include up to 10 categories, arranged individually, for easy access and fast navigation.

This handset caters to those looking for the latest in smartphone capabilities and also provides multimedia features for maximum entertainment. DivX and Xvid videos are played back without separate encoding, while multimedia files are browsed via the 3D thumbnail gallery.

It boasts a distinctive design that is both sleek and soft and will be available in fashionable colours including white, pink, black and silver. The phone includes a long-lasting 1500mAh battery, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 2.1 capability and assisted GPS. A 2GB micro SD card is included in the sales package at launch and this is expandable to 32GB.
