Connector Motorways, the operators of the Lane Cove Tunnel say they have mistakenly issued toll demands to 650 motorists after the computer misinterpreted photos taken of number plates on vehicles without eTags.

The computer misread license plates on vehicles travelling in the tunnel and the nearby Falcon Street Gateway for five months, from March to August this year.

The company released a statement saying they were working with affected motorists to resolve the issue. The company suggested several factors contributed to the error

“Misreads during this process can be attributed to non-standard registration plate frames and obstructions such as tow bars and non-standard numbers.”
