Kung Fu Panda chopped its way through the opposition at the US box office knocking Indiana Jones and Sex and the City from the top slot.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Dreamworks Animation made a cool US$60 million at the box office on its opening weekend.

Several hundred lucky Sydneysiders got a preview of the film last weekend when it made its premiere at the Sydney Film Festival. The overwhelming response to the flick and its star, Jack Black, who was in town to promote the movie – was positive.

Kung Fu Panda opens in Australia on Thursday, June 26.
