You know you have made your mark on society when everyone under the sun is copying you or at least trying to copy you.

According to a Bloomberg report over the weekend, now Amazon has jumped onto the Apple bandwagon and is rumoured to be working with Chinese iPhone maker and Apple contractor Foxconn to create this so-called Amazon iPhone competitor.

The Bloomberg story, which also ran in Engadget and Gizmodo says its report is based on “two people with knowledge of the matter.” This follows rumours late last year were Amazon was reportedly working with Samsung to create an Android tablet- rumours which turned out to be false.

Amazon is also reportedly also seeking to acquire a wide range of smartphone-centric patents to guard against infringement law suits, which Apple is becoming more and more fond of using. Most of these patents are reported to revolve around a 10-inch Tablet like device.

According to these reports, Amazon’s popular Kindle Fire tablet has come out as a lower cost alternative to the iPad among some consumers, so any Amazon smartphone will have some potential customer base for initial success.

Add to that the profits Amazon would get by selling its digital books, movies and music on the same platform people would use as their primary mobile device, and the numbers do start to add up

With Google launching its Nexus and Apple looking set to reveal its iPad ‘mini’ concept later this year, the world of mobile Tablet- like computing is getting very crowded indeed.
