More than 50,000 iPhone 4 and 4S’s were put on eBay over the weekend in anticipation of the release of Apple’s iPhone 5. While this may be good for consumers who are not able to afford the iPhone when it first came out, eBay itself must be rubbing its hands with glee over the prospect of the fees it will collect once the items are sold.
When the search terms ‘iphone’, ‘iphone 4’ and ‘ipad’ slipped into eBay.com.au’s top 10 most popular search terms, listings for the iPhone 4/4S and its accessories, reached 403,482 today – an increase of over 50,000 listings in just one weekend. The increase in listings suggests Aussie Apple addicts are selling older models to fund the purchase of the new device, says eBay.
Buyers should also keep an eye out for great deals, with iPhone 4S handsets up for grabs for under $100, and a wide-variety of accessories making up 377,759 listings. Collectors and Apple lovers can even get their hands on a collector’s edition, first generation iPhone 3 which is currently selling for $7,999.
On an average day on eBay.com.au in Q2 2012, a mobile phone item sold every 2 minutes.
