According to a recent report by the Wall Street Journal, Apple might be planning to release a higher-resolution display for the upcoming version of the iPad Mini.

Based on the report, Apple’s suppliers are apparently prepping for a new iPad Mini with a high-resolution display, which is scheduled to be released in the last quarter of the year. Moreover, the Cupertino company is reportedly sourcing the displays from three different companies including LG, Sharp and even Samsung.

Initially, Apple was planning to only get the displays from LG and Sharp, but in the end decided to include Samsung to ensure that the demand is met. Also, there are rumours spreading that Apple might also offer the new iPad mini in different colours, probably in the same manner as it made the 5th generation iPod mini or the alleged iPhone 5C.

As with other rumours, we suggest taking this bit of information with caution especially since Apple has been known to change its mind before launching its product. Nevertheless, it will be quite interesting how a high-res iPad Mini will fair against its top competitor – the recently launched Nexus 7.
