Instagram is now adding a new feature that was originally created by Facebook – photo tags.

The feature is now available in the latest versions of Instagram both for Android and iOS and is called “Photos of You”. The feature will allow users to tag their friends on the network or brands in their photos.

App users will be able to put tags on their photos right after an image has been cropped and filters have been applied. Those tagged in the photos will receive notifications and can choose whether they want to publicly display the images on their profiles or if they want to hide it from their profiles.

If a user decides to publicly show tagged images on his/her profile, a new section entitled “Photos of You” will appear in which the images will appear. Users are also given the option to manually approve tagged images or if they want to automatically post any photos of them tagged by friends.

Photos of You is already available in version 3.5 of Instagram’s applications for iOS and Android. Users will have until May 16 to review the Photos of You section of their profiles before images go public.
