HTC has long been known to produce quality high-end smartphones in the past. But since its revenues aren’t going up for the past few years, it has come to terms that it needs to give emphasis on building low-end phones in order to make a profit.

So as part of its “rehabilitation” program, the company has promised that it will push harder in the production of lower price devices. And it looks like the Taiwanese company has already started working on one device – the new Desire 8.

According to reports, the Desire 8 will have a 5.5-inch display, a 13MP camera at the back and a 5MP snapper at the front with a “beautification mode”, on-screen navigation buttons and stereo front-facing speakers. The device is expected to be fashioned from plastic with several colour options including white, red, yellow, orange and cyan.

There are minor details on the leaked image that give us hints on when the phone will be announced. The date on the clock from the homepage is set at March 18th and there is a picture of a Beijing stadium so it may likely be released in China by the second half of March.
