Huawei introduced today the Ascend P2 smartphone at the 2013 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

The Ascend P2 features a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM. It also has a 4.7-inch IPS HD in-cell touch display protected by Corning’s second generation Gorilla Glass panel. It is only 8.4mm thin and designed with an infinity edge feature as seen in other phones in the Ascend P-series. It will also have support for LTE Cat 4 which enables the phone to have download speeds of up to 150 Mbps.

The Huawei Ascend P2 runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with the company’s Emotion UI 1.5 on top of Google’s default Vanilla UI.  It is powered by a 2420 mAh battery and equipped with Huawei’s unique Quick Power Control (QPC) and Automated Discontinuous Reception (ADRX) power-saving technologies which reduces power consumption by 30% and charging time by more than 25% compared to other smartphones.

A 13-megapixel camera sits at the back of the device which is also capable of capturing videos at 1080p at 30 frames per second. There’s also a 1.3-megapixel camera at the front of the device to support self-portrait and video shooting. Huawei has also added an advanced camera algorithm on the P2 which enables it to not only capture images in even backlit conditions but also automatically adjusts camera modes to capture high quality photos.

Then there’s Huawei’s Emotion UI. It’s three notable features include the UniHome function that combines home panels with the main menu, the Me Widget which aggregates user information and function in a single, customizable widget and the Smartphone Housekeeper that supports anti-virus, energy-saving, privacy protection and software management features among others.

The Ascend P2 will be available globally around the second quarter of 2013, starting with France by June through the Orange network.
