AUD$299 seems to be the sweet spot for budget handsets, with HTC today announcing the local availability of its budget-friendly Desire 628. While internals are pretty run-of-the-mill for a phone in its price bracket, the Desire 628 may win some love thanks to a unique dual colour "Cobalt White" design; the handset's white body is surrounded by a deep blue trim. It's not revolutionary, but it's a nice contrast to the typical choice of black, white, or grey typically offered by most smartphones in the budget arena.
Key specifications include a 5-inch 720p display, a 1.3GHz MediaTek eight-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, a 2,200mAh battery, a 13MP rear-facing camera, and a 5MP front-facing camera. The Desire 628 ships with the somewhat outdated Android Lollipop (5.1).
The HTC Desire 628 is available now through JB Hi-Fi for AUD$299.
Other recent AUD$299 smartphones include the OPPO F1 and the LG K10. Samsung’s Galaxy J3 missed the mark by AUD$30, coming in at AUD$329.
