HTC has confirmed that its mid-range Android phone from last year – the HTC One S will no longer receive further updates beyond Android 4.1 Jellybean and HTC’s Sense 5.

The news has been indirectly announced in response to a question posted on HTC France’s Facebook page wherein the company indicated that the HTC One S will no longer have access to updates for Android and HTC Sense future versions. HTC has also added that although they are fully aware that this information will disappoint a lot of users, the company is fully confident in the phone’s design that offers video and audio experience of the highest quality.

Although the HTC One S is just a mid-ranger, the phone is still capable enough to run on Android 4.2 or at the very least have Sense 5. And even though HTC didn’t mention why it chose to stop updates for the One S, a lot of people are speculating that the financial troubles that the company is experiencing lately maybe a factor that affected this decision.

There is also a chance that HTC France’s announcement is only a regional issue and other HTC One S units might be updated to Sense 5 after all, but nevertheless, there’s still hope for the One S in case a developer would be able to port future versions of Android and Sense into the phone, otherwise, the phone is stuck on version 4.1 Jellybean and HTC Sense 4+.
