A photo of what is said to be the HTC DNA has turned up online and rumours are saying that this is actually an official photo.

The HTC DNA is a 5-inch mobile-tablet for the western market, a repackaging of the HTC J Butterfly, a challenger to the Galaxy Note 2 that only launched in Japan.

The specs are said to be identical to the J Butterfly, with a 5-inch screen that has a resolution equal to a 1080p HD TV, 1,080×1,920 pixels screen resolution  with 440ppi. This is huge compared to the iPhone 5's 326ppi retina display.

Moreover, it should have an 8-megapixel camera on the back, capable of shooting 1080p video, with 16GB storage and 2GB of RAM. A Qualcomm Snapdragon processor should be inside and it should come with Android Jelly Bean 4.1 straight out of the box.

Previous reports have pegged release to be next months but no official date has been confirmed yet.

If the specs are right, the DNA would prove to be quite a challenger to the Galaxy Note 2. Samsung's phablet has been selling like crazy at 3 million units since it was announced in September.

HTC could surely use the same success story as it has been struggling as of late, with profits down 79% on the same time last year. October wasn’t any good either.
