Hitachi Global Storage Technologies has designed a range ofexternal storage devices specifically for the Apple Mac market.
It has simple external mobile drives like the G-Drive slim, G-DRIVE mobile USB, G-Drive mobile and G-Drive mini targeting college students, business professionals and consumers, to desktop drives like G-Drive and G-RAID targeting professional content creators, including photographers and A/V post production professionals.
The new G-Drive gives users up to 500GB of storage and ubiquitous USB 2.0 connectivity in a thin and light form factor. Users can easily carry up to 80 hours of high-definition video, 320 hours of standard video, 114 movies, 80,000 songs or 160 games
With up to 750GB of storage space for important documents, MP3s, digital video and digital photo files. G-Drive mobile USB is designed for the MacBook, with a matching sliver finish and USB connectivity, while the G-Drive mobile is suitable for the MacBook Pro with its dual FireWire 800 ports and black finish. G-Drive mobile hard drives are bus-powered, eliminating the need to carry an external AC power supply.
G-Drive mini hard drives feature 7,200RPM and comes with an all-aluminium enclosure that can withstand up to 1000G's of shockto ensure data is protected against the bumps and bruises encountered on the road. The G-DRIVE mini comes in capacities up to 750GB and features high-speed FireWire 800 (FireWire 400 via cable) and USB 2.0 for connectivity. The system is bus-powered. A built-in “fan-less” cooling system is designed to silently dissipate heat.
Designed specifically for professional content creation applications, the G-RAID features high-speed interfaces including 3Gbit eSATA, FireWire 800 (FireWire 400 via cable) and USB 2.0 ports. Ideal for content creators, it supports simultaneous playback of multiple layers of HDV, DVCPRO HD and ProRes 422 HQ with the leading video editing applications including Final Cut Pro. The G-RAID drive is capable of delivering over 200 MB/second transfer rate when connected to any Mac or PC via eSATA. The all-aluminum-designed system is available in storage capacities up to 6TB. Its soft-touch On/Off switch and thermo-regulated “smart” fan keeps the G-RAID reliable, cool and quiet in the editing suite.
With up to 1.5TB capacity, the G-RAID mini is the designed for video and still shooters or editors working on location. Out of the box, G-RAID mini is setup in RAID 0 (performance mode), with its two Hitachi Travelstar 7,200rpm drives working together for the performance you need to edit compressed HD codes. Using the included software utility, the G-RAID mini can be configured in RAID 1 (protected mode). It is FireWire bus-powered – even when using eSATA for data transfer at speeds of over 120MB/sec!
