David Kernell- the 20 year old son of Memphis State Democrat, Mike Kernell, has plead not guilty to hacking Republican Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin’s email account.

Kernell entered the plea in Federal Court in Knoxville, where prosecutors were indicting him for accessing Palin’s email without authorisation.

Kernell was released without posting bond conditional upon him no longer owning a computer and limiting his internet usage to checking email and doing class work.

If convicted, Kernell faces a maximum of five years in prison, a $US250,000 ($352,600) fine and three years of supervised release. Kernell’s trail date is set for December 16.

The indictment alleges that, on September 16, Kernell reset the password to Mrs Palin’s personal email account to gain access to it. Authorities say Kernell then read the contents of the account and made screenshots of the email directory, email content and other personal information, later posting some of the information to a public website.
