Google may be once again trying to get control of our living rooms with another version of a set-top-box operating system based on Android, which is aptly called Android TV.

But in contrast to past attempts to build a smart interface for the TV, Google is now focusing on building Android TV as an entertainment interface and is veering away from making it a ported OS from an Android smartphone.

The interface of Android TV is said to feature cards that represent movies, shows, apps and games. Users scroll through this list of cards using a remote control with a four-way directional pad and additional navigation buttons including Home, Back and Enter. It will also reportedly support voice input and notifications but will likely be incorporated into the platform in very limited cases.

Google is also said to be courting app developers to build apps and games for Android TV and encouraging them to build these apps with consistent interfaces.
