Google has now started rolling out an update to Android KitKat. Version 4.4.4 was designed not as a major update but more of a security fix related to the OpenSSL bug.

Just like in desktop browsers, smartphones were also affected by the vulnerability in OpenSSL which caused quite a concern a few months ago when the Heartbleed bug was discovered. The newest version of Android KitKat was designed to bring a security fix that will prevent a possible attack.

The OTA update is now rolling out for the Nexus 5 and will soon be available to other devices in the line including the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10.  There’s no word yet when the update will be pushed to Google Play Edition devices though.
