Google today officially announced the long-rumoured Nexus 5 handset alongside the latest version of Android – Android 4.4 KitKat.

The Nexus 5 boasts a 5-inch Full HD IPS display with a pixel density of 445 pixels per inch. The smartphones display also features advanced in-cell touch technology that enables smooth touch recognition, bright outdoor visibility and clear and crisp images.

Just like the Nexus 4, the newest Nexus phone is manufactured by LG. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset with a 2.2GHz quad-core Krait CPU, 2GB of RAM, and will come in either 16GB or 32GB versions.

The camera of the Nexus 5 features LG Innotek’s optical image stabiliser technology, which was first introduced in the LG G2. There’s an 8MP camera at the back and a 1.3MP front-facing snapper. The Nexus 5 also includes a Photo Sphere app that makes it easy to capture a series of images and stitch them to one big photo that offers 360-degree viewing experience. There’s also an improved HDR+ mode that captures burst of shots and applies computational photography to enhance shadow and light elements from the multiple exposure and colour data.

Connectivity-wise, the new Nexus now features LTE connectivity, Bluetooth v4.0, NFC and dual-band Wi-Fi.

The Nexus 5 will be available in Australia for purchase in black or white with no contract required on Google Play store starting the beginning of November.
