Google has just released its latest Chromebook creation which is designed to take a bite off of the premium notebook market segment – the Pixel.

Its body is machined from anodized aluminium and uses active cooling technology with no visible vents. The Pixel has a 12.85-inch display with a 3:2 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2560 x 1700 pixels. Its screen has a pixel density of 239 pixels per inch, a 400 nit screen brightness and 178 degrees extra-wide viewing angle.

Moreover, the multi-touch screen is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass panel. It also has a backlit keyboard, a clickable, etched-glass touchpad and an integrated 720p HD camera.

And although it only weighs 3.35 lbs, the Pixel has specs similar to other high-end devices currently in the market. For starters, it’s powered by an Intel Core i5 dual-core processor clocked at 1.8Ghz. It also has an integrated Intel Graphics 4000 system with 4GB of RAM and a 32GB solid state drive (64GB on the LTE model).

In terms of connectivity, the Pixel has two USB 2.0 ports, a mini display port, SD/MMC card reader, dual-band WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 and a built-in LTE modem (for the LTE model).

Other goodies include one terabyte Google Drive cloud storage for three years, 12 free sessions of GoGo Inflight Internet, and for those who have the LTE model who are living in the United States, Google is adding a 100MB/month for 2 years of mobile broadband for Verizon Wireless.

The Chromebook Pixel is now available for order on the Google Play store with prices starting at US$1,299.
