Google announces Android Wear update enabling GPS support

Google today announced the first update to Android Wear, its smartwatch operating system. The update will enable support for smartwatches featuring GPS sensors, and allow users to store music and playback music from directly on their Android Wear device.

The Sony SmartWatch 3 is the first Android Wear device to have an in-built GPS sensor, and will ship with the updated version of Android Wear. American Customers can pre-order the SmartWatch 3 from today for USD$249, but an Australian release or pricing have yet to be confirmed.

Existing Android Wear including the LG G Watch, the Samsung Gear Live and Moto 360 will receive an update over the next few days.

Android Wear smartwatches are compatible will all devices running Android 4.3 or higher.
