Google announced today at its Glass Collective event that it may start shipping the Glass Explorer edition head mounted display to developers within the next month.

Although the exact date at which Google will make its glass hardware publicly available was not stated, its announcement that it’s very close to shipping the device within the next month may hint that the search giant intends to make the glasses debut at its annual developer conference – Google I/O.

Google has allowed I/O attendees last year to pre-register for Glass, but the company has made minimal follow-ups since then (including a number of glass foundry events where developers were given glass blocks with their wait-list number engraved on it).

So it’s just logical that if Google wants to make a buzz about it glass project, it needs to get the hardware to the developers to build some interest and maybe even have some apps developed before the event.

Google I/O which is the company’s annual developer-focused conference is held in San Francisco, California and features highly technical, in-depth sessions focused on building web, mobile and enterprise applications with Google and open web technologies (a.k.a other Google products) such as Android, Chrome, Chrome OS and Google APIs to name a few.
