Geeksphone Firefox Phone To Hit Market First

Spanish start-up and smartphone manufacturer Geeksphone might be the first company to officially release a Firefox OS-powered smartphone as it appears the company is already preparing to ship two of its Firefox phones this week.

Spanish start-up and smartphone manufacturer Geeksphone might be the first company to officially release a Firefox OS-powered smartphone as it appears the company is already preparing to ship two of its Firefox phones this week.

According to reports, the company’s Keon and Peak will go on sale to developers within the week. The Keon which features a 1GHz snapdragon processor, 4GB of on-board storage, 512MB of RAM, a 3-megapixel camera and a 3.5-inch display will sell for around AU$115-146 with value added tax included.

The Peak on the other hand which will retail for AU$189-229 with VAT will feature a 1.2GHz snapdragon processor, an 8-megapixel rear camera, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage and an 1800 mAh battery.

According to Mozilla CEO Gary Kovcs, Firefox OS devices will start shipping first to emerging markets. Countries that will first get Firefox OS include Venezuela, Poland, Brazil, Portugal, Colombia, Hungary, Mexico and Serbia to name a few.
