Samsung has today announced the launch of its Galaxy S4 zoom, a new smartphone device that comes with an optical zoom. Combining a 10x optical zoom lens with compact digital camera technology, the S4 zoom delivers a 16 Megapixel CMOS Sensor, Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS), and Xenon Flash with the functionality of a compact Samsung smartphone.

Combining a 10x optical zoom lens with compact digital camera technology, the S4 zoom delivers a 16 Megapixel CMOS Sensor, Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS), and Xenon Flash with the functionality of a compact Samsung smartphone.
The new Zoom Ring is a simple and intuitive way to access the GALAXY S4 zoom’s key features while making phone calls. During a phone call, users can share content with the person they are speaking with through a twist of the Zoom Ring, which will activate the In-Call Photo Share feature. In-Call Photo Shareoffers the ability to use the camera function during a call and share images (via MMS).
Twisting the Zoom Ring can also activate Quick Launch and Shortcut features, designed to give users instant access to multiple camera modes including Auto, Gallery and Smart Mode.
The Zoom Ring is designed to replace dials and buttons in a system that can make it easy for users to compose an image scene and capture wide-angle shots or tight close-ups.
The zoom’s sensor lets users capture images, whether from a distance or up close, and in a range of light conditions. With Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS), image blur can be reduced.
Photo Suggest can connect users to libraries of images taken by fellow photographers from around the world. The device app is designed to connect users to examples of other photos taken of the same location in order to help them compare and compose their photographs. Photo Suggest can even directusers to the ideal photo locations and vantage points.
The GALAXY S4 zoom also features Samsung’s popular Smart Mode, built with pre-determined camera settings that help users take the best photos in a range of environments. Smart Mode will automatically adjust camera settings to help users capture the best photos possible. Settings include: Drama Shot, designed to merge continuous shots of moving objects into a single composed image; Action Freeze to instantly capture high-speed action; and a range of others.
In addition, the Smart Mode Suggest function will automatically measure elements of lighting and image composition in a shot and provide the user with a shortlist of options to take great photos based on the appropriate camera settings. Smart Mode Suggest also includes face detection; helping to ensure that photos of friends and family are optimised.
Running on Android Jelly Bean 4.2, the GALAXY S4 zoom has many of the same features as the recently launched Galaxy S4 smartphone, including Touchwiz, designed to give users the ability to customise various aspects of the device interface including the lock screen and notification bar.
The handset includes Story Album, which lets users arrange images and videos into a single timeline so they can share content with friends and loved ones via email or social media channels.
Through a collaboration with online photo album service, Blurb#, users can also edit images and even order prints directly from the device. If users would rather transfer images to a compatible laptop or tablet wirelessly for safe keeping, Samsung Link makes this possible with the touch of a button.
The GALAXY S4 zoom also features the latest version of Samsung Hub, a one-stop destination for music, videos, books and games. Group Play lets multiple GALAXY S4 zoom users connect directly with their Samsung devices so they can listen and play together, without the need for a Wi-Fi AP or cellular signal.
