Viber, the VoIP-based app that offers free HD-quality voice calls and text messaging to iOS and Android phone users, will start giving similar service to owners of Nokia Lumia running the Windows Phone 7.
By gearing new releases for platforms like Nokia S40, being used by 1.5 billion devices since it launched in 1999, Viber believes it can increase its reach by tapping these markets.
While Windows Phone 7 Lumia phones will get access to Viber's HD voice and group calls, the company said it has plans for Windows Phone 8 with an updated version of the downloadable app.
For the non-Windows Phone OS platforms like the Nokia S40, Symbian, and Bada-based platforms, Viber will for the meantime give text messaging only.
Owners of iOS devices which have the Viber app can now find language support for Simplified and Traditional Chinese, French, Arabic, German, Spanish, Russian, Hebrew, and Portuguese.
The Viber Media-owned company currently handles over two billion minutes of calls and over six billion messages each month on top of the ten million calls per day.
