There’s plenty of diets out there that try and get you to slim down after over-indulging during the holiday season, but now one US company has taken it one step further with its Hapifork.

This implement is a fork for eating, but with a catch – it will vibrate if you take a mouthful of food less than 10 seconds after your last. The theory behind the fork is that if you take your time eating, then you will eventually eat less. Most people overeat because it takes the body up to 20 minutes to tell you that you are full. In the mean time we usually gorge because we don’t feel full.

It is also said to help with digestion because the longer it takes you to chew, swallow and then take the next mouthful, the easier it is for your digestive system to process the food.

Brought to CES by France-based inventor Jacques Lepine, he developed the device after he was told by his own GP that he ate too fast and needed to slow down. It took him seven years and has also invented the HapiSpoon, which also does the same trick while eating.

There has been no news on whether this product will be released in Australia.
