Facebook is preparing to launch two new features for Pages and popular profiles that aim to help increase interactions with fans and readers.

These features are Replies and active-thread sifting. The reply feature is supposed to allow page owners to respond directly to comments on post in order to increase interactions. On the other hand, active-thread sifting arranges conversations based on activity, so those conversations that are most active will be ordered at the top using an algorithm to appear higher in posts.

Engagement remains an important factor for the social networking site as it provides a way to quantify the amount of time users spend on the site and which particular topics people are most interested in, which are critical for marketing campaigns.

However, it should be noted that these features will roll out only to pages and profiles with at least 10,000 followers and not on personal accounts. It also won’t work on mobile, but there are plans to take these functionalities into mobile and on Facebook’s Graph UI.

Facebook also cited that the algorithm for active-thread sifting may work different per user. For example, certain threads will out rank other threads especially in cases where people from a user’s network are also in the conversation. Conversely, those threads that contain spam will be moved down.

These new features are set to arrive by July but Facebook may offer it to specific page owners by March 25.
