Facebook has been very busy these past few weeks, specifically with its introduction of Facebook Home for Android and its revamped app for iOS. And for the first nine days since the launch of Facebook Home for Android, the app has reached around 500,000 downloads on the Google Play Store.

In contrast to Instagram’s migration from iOS to Android which garnered 5 million downloads during its first 6 days, Facebook Home appears to be relatively weaker and people don’t seem to be much excited to download the app.

One of the main reasons for this low reception is the fact that the app is only available to a select number of handsets. Currently, Facebook Home is only compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S3, Note 2, HTC One X and the HTC One X+. Second is that the availability of the app vary across regions. International launches have been staggered; the UK launch for example came only on April 16.

Now the question on whether things would pick up for Facebook Home in the future would depend on two things – its availability on other Android devices and the additional features that its future update will bring to the overall consumer experience.
