Facebook’s Home Replacement app – Facebook Home hasn’t really made it big in the Android community but it seems like the social networking giant is slowly dismantling the project and moving its features one by one to other apps.
Today, Facebook announced that Home’s CoverFeed, will now be available on the main Facebook Android app. CoverFeed allows users to replace the stock Android lockscreen with a custom lockscreen that brings in photos and updates from a user’s Facebook news feed.
Previously, CoverFeed can only be enabled on a device if Facebook Home is installed; so, this would be the first time that the feature can be used without downloading the Facebook launcher. The same is true with Chat Heads which is now also available via the Facebook Messenger.
With this in mind, it appears that the only feature of Facebook Home that is not a standalone app is the launcher itself, which didn’t really become popular with smartphone users. At present, Facebook Home has an average score of 2.4 stars in Google Play and has been installed around 1-5M times.
Meanwhile, the update for the main Facebook app will start rolling out to Android users starting today. Do note that CoverFeed will only work with handsets that are compatible with Facebook Home. These include the Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note II, Nexus 4, HTC One X, HTC One X+ and HTC One.
