Facebook has finally reached Windows Phone soil as its official app debuted today on Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 app marketplace.

The app is titled Facebook 5.0 which indicates that it includes improvements made in previous versions of the Facebook app on other platforms like iOS and Android. Before Facebook 5.0, only third party apps were available on WP8 handsets for users to check their accounts. And most of those apps lack important features found in versions of Facebook in other platforms.

The WP8 Facebook app brings a different look and functionality that is unique to the operating system which blends well with the tile-based design of Microsoft’s metro UI. The app was previously available as a beta and now launches as a completely separate app.

The arrival of the app was first mentioned in the company’s annual developer conference – Build 2013. Both the Facebook app and its beta version are now available for download on Windows Phone 8 market place as well as in Windows Phone 7.5.
