Don’t Believe Software Update Will Waterproof iPhone

Apple’s iPhone never have been, and in the near future very unlikely to be, waterproof. However a prank on the internet might be trying to get iPhone users to dunk their phones in water to test the theory. Don’t, it won’t work and it will be an expensive outcome for the owner because it is not covered in the warranty.

What is most worrying about the prank is that the instigators were saying that the iOS7 software update would make the handset waterproof, and that there are indications that the less tech-inclined amongst us believe this to be true.

A software update is incapable of doing anything other than adding, or taking away, operating features of your handset.

That aside, if your smartphone does get water damaged it is almost impossible to recover. However, on the off-chance it doesn’t stay in the water too long, you do stand a reasonable change of trying to make it work again. You need to dry it immediately and then put it in an airtight box with silicon pieces, which will eventually absorb all the water out of the device. Is this fool-proof? No, but it might save you some heartache in the long run.
