CES: Nokia Lives, But For How Long?

By Branko Miletic

The CES show always provides some talking points and this year is no exception. Finnish phone maker Nokia is providing the chatter at present with a brand new smartphone to take on Apple and HTC.

Known as the Lumia 900, this 4G-capable handset looks like this Nokia-Microsoft partnership love-in is lasting longer than our minority federal parliament.

Coming with specificiations like Windows OS, 4G network capability providing up to 50 Mbps downloads, 4.3 inch AMOLED screen, 8 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, 1.4 GHz Snapdragon processor and what is claimed to be a longer lasting (1840 mAh as opposed to the usual 1450 mAh) battery, Nokia is firmly back in the saddle.

With specs like that, as well as Apple and Samsung, HTC should also be worried.

On top of that, Nokia’s new phone can utilise Nokia’s app marketplace, which now a has 50,000 apps, meaning the Lumia 900 will be competing with the big boys of smartphones

I wonder how you say ‘woo-hoo’ in Finnish?
