Casio details new 12.1 megapixel camera

Casio Electronics has released the world’s first 12.1 effective megapixel compact digital camera.

The Exilim Zoom EX-Z1200’s resolution is the highest available in any compact digital camera. The device has a 2.8in screen as well as anti-shake and best-shot scene selections.

It incorporates CCD-shift image stabilisation and the latest Exilim Engine 2.0 image processing module with motion analysis technology.

Casio claims that the features work together to help prevent blurry shots owing to shaky hands, subject movement or poor focusing when photographing moving subjects.

The camera automatically analyses the velocity and vector of a moving subject and sets the most appropriate ISO sensitivity and shutter speed.

In addition, the auto-tracking auto-focus system combines face detection and motion analysis technologies. Once the focus is locked in it follows a moving subject’s face, maintaining sharp focus and correct exposure.

The Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z1200 will be available in the UK from late May 2007 with a retail price guide of £279.99 (A$673.70). No plans to launch the unit in Australia have been confirmed.
