Canon’s new Vixia camcorders are eyeing the market for baby monitors with family-friendly features that neatly packaged in a device below $300.

The new Vixio line features the R52, R500 and R50 camcorders, both of which can act as a baby monitor and lets users get a live video stream of their babies on their smartphones and tablets. Moreover, the two camcorders also sports an advanced baby mode that tracks the height, weight and age over months and years of shooting of up to three babies.

The camcorders are equipped with a 3.3MP CMOS sensor, 32x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilisation and either 16GB (R50) or 32GB (R52) worth of internal storage, which is also expandable via a standard SD card. Both camcorders can capture 1080p videos at 60fps and record it as AVCHD or MP4 format.

The Canon Vixio R52 and R50 will be available starting this March for US$450 and US$400 respectively. The R500 on the other hand will be more affordable at US$300 since it doesn’t have Wi-Fi and built-in storage.
