Wi-Fi enabled cameras are slowly becoming a trend these days due to the popularity of social networking sites that focus on filtered images or videos such as Instagram and Vine. Canon is one brand that is trying to capture a portion of this market to maximise its profit.

The camera manufacturer recently released the PoweShot N camera that features a dedicated Facebook button that makes it really convenient to upload and share crisp images to a user’s preferred social network.

The PowerShot N features a 12.1-megapixel high-sensitivity CMOS sensor and Digic 5 Image processor that allows it to capture high-quality images. It also features a number of software improvements such as a Creative Shot mode that automatically creates a series of five artistic photos along with the original for an array of options.

There’s also a Face ID system that allows for the camera to automatically detect and focus on familiar faces during a shot and an Intelligent IS system that allows the camera to automatically select the optimal image stabilisation settings according to the shooting conditions.

A 2.8-inch capacitive, tilt-touch panel LCD is located at the back of the camera, which is very useful when taking images at unique angles. The Facebook button at the side of the device allows instant upload of images to Facebook and also gives users the ability to comment on their uploaded photos directly from the camera.

The camera can also upload images to Canon’s Image Gateway and upload them to a computer remotely. Photos can also be printed wirelessly using Wireless PictBridge on select printers, including a couple of Canon Pixma printers.

The PowerShot N Facebook-ready digital camera will be available in white beginning September 2013 initially in the US for US$299.99. There’s no word yet if the device will reach Australian shores but we’ll keep you posted if we get some details from Canon Australia.
