Buy your tech now before price rises hit

If you’re in the market for a new flat screen or other high tech device – industry pundits are advising that you buy now before price rises from the falling Aussie Dollar hit.

According to reports in the Daily Telegraph, the increases will hit products across a number of categories including whitegoods and AV products such as plasma and LCD TVs, home theatre systems, DVD recorders and Blu-ray disc players.

Already major industry players, Panasonic and Pioneer have flagged price increases in February with other companies such as Sony and Samsung predicted to follow suit. The sliding value of the Aussie Dollar compared to the Japanese Yen and US Dollar have been blamed for the price rise.

“(We buy) in Japanese Yen and the US dollar and the market has seen the Australian dollar weaken against these currencies by over 30 per cent since July 2008,” said Paul Reid, the director of Panasonic Australia’s consumer electronics group.

“As a result of these factors, prices are set to increase across the Australian consumer electronics marketplace in 2009.”
